The main idea of the ART COMES OUT project is to get works of art out of the “white cubes” of the galleries and into the public space.
It is an experiment of sorts. What will happen if one superimposes the space of the urban landscape with the painted space of the canvases?
The event had to be almost spontaneous, without the official consent of the municipality, to be achieved by the simplest means, independently from any institutions. Most of the works were created especially for the project.
From the very beginning, it did not go according to plan. The place that we were counting on had been unexpectedly taken by a flea market. The exposition concept had to be changed on the spot, which eventually was to our advantage. I decided to hang the canvases the way laundry was hanged for drying in my childhood. The cozy Beyt Israel courtyard, adjacent to “Agripas 12” gallery, with its kind of amphitheatre, even resembles in a way “those very courtyards” in Odessa. The wind got stronger at twilight, the painted images were tossing as sails, creating an ever-changing mixture of colors.
