Tenno Sooster:”Sometimes it’s good to just feel like a plain guy”

17, February 2011 · People and Places

Sometimes it’s good to just feel like a plain guy and leave the glamorous space of snobbish galleries, showrooms, “Artist’s Houses” and so on… and to come down to street level … or, for example, in a cafe!
The Tel Aviv district of “Gan Hashmal” is a very unusual place, with its own history and style, and now it is reaching new heights – with the introduction of cafes, up-and-coming designer boutiques and jewelers scattered everywhere. And who hasn’t heard of the famous music cellar bar “Levantin 7” – it’s worth its weight in gold!
And here at the corner of 12 Ha Hashmal Street can be found the “D’project Street Couture and Café”.
Certainly, there is for my part a definite self-deception in trying “to feel like a plain guy” because this cafe is not really such a plain place— the exhibits change every month, there are many loyal customers – but the atmosphere is of a true neighborhood hangout, a veritable ‘Cheers’ of Tel Aviv.
It is here at the D’project Street Couture and Café that I have hung my new series of drawings “Portraits of Insects” and I’d like to invite you to come, drink coffee, and view my pictures. You can share your thoughts with the café’s owner – and the owner will share them with me – or you can simply come and drink café in one of the cozy corners as though you are a simple visitor, and listen to what others have to say, and then — to share your thoughts with the owner, and the owner…you know.
So, come in, drink coffee, and enjoy my pictures…..
