Asaph Ben-Menahem

9, September 2012 · Visiting Artists

Asaph Ben-Menahem (b.1940, Israel), winner of the Israel Museum ‘Jacob Pins’ Award for Printmaking in 2008, has been widely exhibited in the United States, Israel, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and The Netherlands,
and makes part of the permanent collections of major art institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the Harvard University Art Museum/Fogg Museum in Cambridge MA, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and numerous others. His work is also represented in special private collections.

Ben-Menahem has published three poetry books, and publishes poems in contemporary Israeli literary magazines.

Asaph Ben-Menahem is mostly known for his large-format woodcuts. We decided to present here mainly his drawings on music sheets, as a way to demonstrate the creative search process of the author. Such quick drawings amount to no less than twenty thousand pieces in Ben-Menachem’s archive, alongside with hundreds of woodcuts, as well as paintings.
