In my work, I use an old but not forgotten technique of photography on wide film. It also involves a black rag over the camera and over my head, as well as “a little birdy”, dark room, developing the film, handling various chemicals, printing the film, etc. In other words, it is a whole creative process, not just a click of the shutter. You see, I have been exposed to the visual art of painting for as long as I can remember. My father is an artist and I graduated from an art school. Hence, I perceive photography as a form of painting. In my opinion, film photography is to digital photography as a live concert is to a recording. Both types of photography are meaningful but on different levels — it is a matter of preference and I choose wide film. Photography as an art form is a reflection of the artist’s emotions and perceptions. An art piece can be considered a success if it triggers an emotional response in the viewers, enriches them visually, and stimulates the desire to see more of it. The viewers’ opinion is very important to me because they are the true judges.
